This is a reproduction sewing pattern to make a Red Cross Dog. Red Cross dogs were trained to locate the injured and to remain with them, barking to draw attention to the wounded on the battlefield. This pattern was released in 1916 under the authority of the Red Cross. Used as a fund raising item for war bonds during World War 1, it was sewn by women through out Europe, and eventually the United States. This reproduction sewing pattern was published during World War One (1914 - 1918) as a fund raiser to benefit the American Red Cross relief effort. Proceeds from the pattern purchases were donated to the Red Cross. Seamstresses were encouraged to sew the dog (along with it's blanket with the red cross appliqued onto it) to sell at local charity bazaars and popular jumble sales. The monies raised from such events could be donated to the American Red Cross or towards the war effort. SUGGESTED MATERIALS : Cotton, Linen, Velvet, Woolens, Plush Fabrics, or Other Sturdy Goods. All content falls under the copyright www.BeespokeVintagePatterns.com 2003, and as such, no portion of this pattern may be photocopied or reproduced by any means without written consent. Patterns are electronically digitized and printed on a high-quality graphics printer in two to three colors. Paper is a beautiful 18lb semi-transparent vellum for ease of pinning and cutting. They are NOT inferior hand drawn, photo-copied or blue-printed replications. Our reproduced patterns are printed on full size sheets - no need for taping multiple small pages, or re-sizing from a small diagram. Our patterns include seam allowances, grain lines and updated text for ease of construction. Patterns are reproduced directly from the original source material, with no changes in order to retain the historical accuracy of the pattern. Prior sewing experience and knowledge of working with vintage patterns is recommended. Please note: This is NOT a finished garment and the original documentation and pattern are NOT included. 1025184548

**PLEASE KEEP IN MIND**

This is an exact copy of the original vintage pattern and as such may retain any original errors or miscalculations in formatting native to the original pattern.  While I have made up some of these patterns, I have not tested them all out and cannot attest to their accuracy or perfect fit.  As with all garment construction, it is best to make a mock-up for fitting in test fabric prior to cutting and constructing with your final fashion fabric.
