This reproduction sewing pattern is from the May 25, 1863 issue of La Mode Illustree. Typical of the era, sizing is not present but would be approximately 32 to 34 inch for the bust and 22 to 24 inch for the waist measurement. This pattern features both the vest with center front points, and the bolero-style jacket as shown. No directions are given for trimming garment. The vest is provided with double darts at the front edge, and a narrow shawl collar, it buttons high on the chest, and a small, optional pocket may be included. The jacket has large turn back cuffs and rounded shoulders. It lies open along the front and includes a small flare at the lower back edge. Always make a sample muslin before cutting into good material. You will have to increase the length every where. Remember the sleeve shoulder seam was about an inch to 2 inches below where we wear them today. Women (even the heavy ones) were very petite. It is very important when sewing these items to make a fitting mock-up of the pattern out of muslin or other waste fabric, and make all of the adjustments for your individual figure on the mock-up.
